last week.

My review of this week is a little late, owing to the fact that we were out of town all weekend. But, we're back and trying to get things in order before the holidays. Tomorrow is the last day of school, and I absolutely love the holidays through the eyes of little kids. They are just so happy, and it definitely rubs off. Unfortunately, Sam's passed out on the coach next to me drinking Throat Coat and watching Star Wars. He caught a little cold on the way home, and he doesn't look too hot. Goldie and I are taking good care of him, though.

I'll post more pictures from the wedding later, but here are a few bits and pieces from our week. Happy Tuesday!

1. pink grapefruit for breakfast.
2. some of our first little bits of snow in Utah.
3. little Sam Gray.
4. Nola at Kelsey's birthday party.
5. new shoes from Modcloth. thanks, Mama!
6. Goldie with an early Christmas present.
7. Miss Grace at the Hotel Carlile.
7. Salt Creek Beach, CA.

on the road again.

Sam and I have been on the road again the past couple of days. We just got in to California yesterday for my friend's wedding weekend. It wasn't the most pleasant drive, mostly because of lack of sleep. But, we made it! And, we are so excited for the next couple of days.

So, in honor of our trip, we give you our road trip playlist. We are quite aware of the fact that it is completely ridiculous. But, somehow these have accumulated as the songs that must be played on a trip, or it just doesn't feel complete. We plug in Sam's old, fat first generation iPod, crank up the volume, and watch the west desert go flying past.

2. Going Up the Country- Canned Heat
3. Fantasy Remix- Mariah Carey ft. ODB
4. Halo- Beyonce
5. VH1 Storytellers Album with Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash
6. American Pie- Don McLean
7. White Winter Hymnal- Fleet Foxes
8. America- Neil Diamond
9. Benny and the Jets- cover by Biz Markie
10. Unknown Legend- Neil Young
11. I Wanna Dance with Somebody- Whitney Houston
12. Super Bass- Nicki Minaj (especially after falling in love with these little girls.)

Meg
Provo, UT
teal maxi dress (coming soon!)

This is my friend Meg, from Pinker On My Side. We teamed up this week to present a little collaboration of sorts. When you are around Meg, you can't help but throw your head back and laugh every once awhile because she is such a ball of fire. And, she really knows how to pull together some great, original outfits. So, I thought it might be fun to play dress up, and show how vintage pieces can be styled in a modern way. I get the feeling that many women (and men) are afraid to wear classic pieces because they are afraid to look frump or old-fashioned. But, thats just the thing. They are classic for a reason. And, they don't need to look moth-ball vintage. That's why I enjoyed my little photo shoot with Meg so much. She has such a fun sense of style, and I was so happy to see her experimenting with some of my favorite pieces. You can find more photos from this shoot on our Facebook page. We have been lacking on the photo submissions lately. We really would love to see some! If you have any photos of "how you wore it," send them to roxandsamvintage@gmail.com.

Also, head over to Meg's blog today because we are offering a giveaway and exclusive discount code! You can add an additional entry by following us on Pinterest and pinning your favorite item. If you don't have a Pinterest account yet, where have you been? Just kidding. But, it really is so much fun, and will provide hours of procrastination from whatever you choose. It has actually been one of the most fun parts of managing the shop for me. I pin new inventory and sales as they are announced. But, I also pin daily street style finds, and vintage fashion photos. It helps us to stay on top of our game while we are scouring for the shop, and it helps me to be more creative in my own closet.

We have also added a button that you can grab from our sidebar! It will link your readers directly to our shop. It was so nice of a few of you to request this, and we would be so grateful for any support. Thanks, friends!

the great christmas tree mystery.

_MG_3039

Our tree is dead. We bought it the weekend after Thanksgiving, and it promptly decided to die. We have been pumping water into it like crazy, but it is now completely dead. Last weekend, I thought that I may have neglected to nourish it, but it turns out Sam had taken care of it. It is just not sucking up water! It's not even Christmas yet, and it it already crackles alarmingly. If I were to light a match nearby, I think the whole room would go up in flames. On Saturday, Sam and I stopped by the Beehive Bazaar, and left with a couple of new ornaments for the tree. But, I couldn't even hang them from a branch without it disintegrating in my hands!

There is no mystery, I guess. It's pretty clear that Smith's probably cut their trees down weeks ago, and that it was already on its way out. The great mystery is that the discarded branches (that had been cut of the bottom) are still sitting on our porch as soft and fluffy as ever. Why are the dismembered branches still alive!?

this week.

I really don't have very many daily blog reads. I try to cut down, or else I know I may never get away from the computer. But, I have always been impressed by Miss James over at Bleubird. She has the most beautiful family, and she loves them so much. I take note of some of her parenting choices, and I appreciate that she is so positive. Most every Friday she posts "Bits + Pieces" of their week- just random photos from throughout the week. We've just recently joined Instagram, and some of my favorite photos have just been sitting on my phone. These are not necessarily from this past week, just a few since I got my new phone. So, happy Friday! How was your week?

1. taking Goldie for a walk
2. Sam being a man, out shooting things with BTW
3. Thanksgiving pie dough
4. mini pie kit- a perfect birthday present from Emily
5. Grandma and Nola
6. lights at Temple Square in Salt Lake City
7. cutest little nativity scene, at school
8. first present under the tree!

My best friend is getting married next week, and I've got weddings on the mind. I've finally located the perfect bridesmaid dress (It was in my closet the whole time! Figures.) In honor of the occasion, I bring you a pretty, little bridal collection. Cream, lace, and pearls--everything for the modern vintage bride.

1. cream lace wedding dress- for the sweet, modest bride.

2. Italian cream leather peep toe heels- what color will you paint your toes?

3. cream lace tiered mini dress- low maintenance, with a little 60s mod.

4. pearl beaded collar- two in one: a beaded swooping collar, or that trendy peter pan.

a christmas carol.

This Christmas we are living in limbo. We're making a lot of big decisions right now, and I have not really felt the motivation to decorate the house. It's a little of a downer, because I love decorating for Christmas. Last year I actually took quite a bit of time making things to place or hang all over the house. Although, when we dug them out of the shed last week, most everything was smashed or broken. I don't feel like the money and time spent on decorations fits in our plans right now. And, I'm having a hard time realizing that this will be my first Christmas away from home.

On Sunday, I went to the Christmas Devotional in Salt Lake. If you're interested, you should definitely take a look at some of the words spoken. I decided that I'm ok with not having the "perfect" Christmas this year. I am very happy right now, and it won't kill me not to get everything I want this year. In fact, I think it will be good for me. Sam and I are preparing for some great big changes, in more ways that one. (No, I'm not pregnant. I know you were thinking it.) We are so grateful for everything that we are blessed with right now, and that's what I want to focus on this year.

We do have a beautiful tree and it smells great! (So what if it's already dying because I forgot to water it all weekend.) And, a few weeks ago we found this great copy of Dickons' A Christmas Carol at Ken Sander's. Isn't it beautiful?

baby girl.

My sister is having a baby girl!

We have been waiting to find out the gender because baby girl was being shy during her sonograms. But, it's official! It's most fitting for a family of sisters to have a baby girl first. We know how girls work. Sugar and spice and everything nice. Speaking of sugar, my sister had the cutest idea to tell the family the big news. (I already knew a few days before, but I wish I could have been there for the announcement.) On Thanksgiving she baked a layered cake for the family at home. They are her specialty, and I really don't know how she actually does it. It was similar to the rainbow cake she made for my little sister's birthday, and the yellow ombre cake she made for my wedding. She brought the white iced cake and set it on the table during dinner while everyone made guesses. After dinner, my mom got to cut it open to find out what the gender was. A pink ombre cake! It's a girl!

ridiculous.

_MG_2050

Yes, we know it's ridiculous. But, we found this little sweater in the dollar bin at Target and just had to see what would happen if we shoved it over Goldie's little body. He allowed it for about a half hour, and even let us take him around the block, before he began to chew away at the little turtleneck. It was a little too small for him anyway because Sam and I had a little argument at Target while trying to estimate the length of Goldie's torso. I know it's ridiculous, but he looks so funny! I think that Sam and I get a lot of laughs at Goldie's expense. Our new favorite game is to throw him up in the air and watch his little body freak out midair. But, he's so happy and giddy that he's getting attention that I have a feeling he doesn't care.

I have definitely been one to make fun of those who treat their dogs like children. But, I sort of get it now. At Thanksgiving dinner, Kelsey and I found ourselves exchanging "parenting" stories. For example, Nola gets upset when Jesse and Kelsey close doors (like the bathroom door) because she is afraid that they are not really on the other side. And, Goldie completely freaks out whenever a door is closed. In fact, if you put anything between you and Goldie he will find a way to get right up next to you no matter what. He has to literally be in physical contact with you at all times. Sometimes, I feel the need to linger in the kitchen next to his dog dish just so that he will eat food. Because, if I leave the kitchen I know he will follow me and he may never slip away to find nourishment.

But, here's the deal: I love it. I looooove it. I love Goldie so much I can't stand it. I think that Sam resents the fact that I love Goldie so much. It might have something to do with the fact that my nicknames for Sam and Goldie have become slightly interchangeable. Goldie's just so darn needy, and I think that something inside of me is totally ok with that. He needs me! It makes me so happy when Sam lets him in and he jingles all over the house madly until he finds me and circles my legs ten times. I wonder if this is what it feels like to be a parent? I also sort of worry about what kind of parent I will be. Sometimes I am a little afraid that I might literally smother Goldie to death. Right now he is sleeping next to me on the couch with his little head resting on a pillow, and I have to really resist the urge to grab him and squeeze him really hard. The sad thing is, he's not even our dog. Oh, Goldie...
